More than a year after the original Motorola Edge, the company just launched the Edge 20 series, initially consisting of three high-end devices: the Motorola Edge 20, Edge 20 Lite, and Edge 20 Pro (with the Edge 20 Fusion coming a bit later).

Regarding the display, Motorola has fitted a 90Hz AMOLED panel measuring approximately 6.7 inches diagonally and has a hole for the selfie shooter. The original Edge was criticized for the rather extreme curves at the edges of the display, so Motorola has gone with a flat front design this time around. Contrast and viewing angles are, as expected, top-notch for an AMOLED panel.

The 90Hz refresh rate also brings a touch of fluidity to the UI and is responsive. Brightness levels aren’t the best, as I had some trouble reading in sunny conditions, and the adaptive brightness sensor felt a bit choppy. Display, which tracks your eye movements so the screen doesn’t dim when you look at it. Supports HDR10 support to help deliver a visually pleasing experience on OTT platforms. Beyond that, there are the usual toggles for enabling dark mode and adjusting the refresh rate.

The Edge (2022) has a 6.6-inch screen, slightly smaller than the Edge+ (2022)’s 6.7-inch screen. Both are FHD+ 10-bit OLED panels with 144Hz refresh rate, HDR10+ and Gorilla Glass 3 protection. Under the hood of the Edge+ (2022) is a Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 processor paired with 8GB of RAM and 512GB of storage. Edge (2022), on the other hand, relies on a weaker Dimensity 1050 processor. It has 8GB of RAM and 256GB of storage. Neither Edge smartphone has a microSD card slot.

Both phones have a 50MP f/1.8 primary rear camera with OIS and a 2MP depth camera. However, the flagship Edge+ (2022) also features a 50-megapixel ultra-wide-angle camera with a 114-degree field of view and macro capabilities. It also has a 60 MP selfie camera. Additionally, the main camera on the back is capable of recording 8K video and slow-motion footage at 960 fps.

The Motorola Side 20 and Aspect 20 Fusion differ mainly in specs, but have the same screen percentage. The Brink 20 Duo features a 6.67-inch Oled display with a Full HD+ resolution. The Edge 20 has a refresh rate of up to 144Hz, while the Threshold 20 Fusion has a refresh rate of 90Hz. Under the hood, the Brink 20 is powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon 778 Soc paired with 8GB RAM and 128GB onboard storage.

The Moto Edge 20 Fusion features a plastic unibody design with a standard curved back and a relatively thin chassis. The device has some heft due to its larger size, but the narrower aspect ratio makes up for it in the hand. The back has a matte finish, which surprisingly does little to stop smudges and fingerprints. In typical Motorola style, there’s a dedicated Google Assistant button, but it’s in the upper left corner, so it’s hard to reach.

Thankfully, this time around the fingerprint scanner isn’t built into the Motorola logo on the back, but in a more logical location on the side integrated with the power button.

A 3.5mm headphone jack, speaker grille, and USB-C port sit on the bottom. This particular variant, called Electric Graphite, has a hint of purple on the matte finish, giving the back of the phone a very subtle look, which I appreciate.

A square iPhone 11-like camera bump surrounds three lenses, two of which stand out. The device is also rated IP52, which protects against minor splashes, but is definitely not suitable for submersion.
